The Prime Minister will 'kill off health and safety monster'
In a bid to "kill off the health and safety culture for good", Prime Minister David Cameron has announced plans to cap the amount which can be earned by lawyers from small-value personal injury claims against employers; to reduce overall costs in cases funded by "no-win no-fee" deals; and for the
Health and Safety Executive to bring forward to the end of 2012 its timetable for abolishing or consolidating up to half of all existing regulations.
Lofstedt Review now published
On 28 November, Professor Ragnar Lofstedt's report "Reclaiming health and safety for all: An independent review of health and safety regulation" was published.

In this report Professor Lofstedt sets out a number of risk- and evidence-based recommendations that will:
• reduce regulatory requirements on business where they do not lead to improved health and safety outcomes,
• remove pressures on business to go beyond what the regulations require, enabling them to reclaim ownership of the management of health and safety.
